Basant Panchami
Basant Panchami is celebrated in Mayo College Girls’ School with great zeal and joy. The Basant Panchami festival falls on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Hindu month of Magha. The festival is considered to mark the onset of spring in India. Basant Panchami is said to be an extremely auspicious day, as the devotees worship Goddess Saraswati, daughter of Goddess Durga. It is believed that goddess Saraswati, who is the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, science and technology, was born on this day. Hence we celebrate Saraswati Puja on Basant Panchami. This year at our temple we had havan pujan followed by a Sitar recital by Shivranjani Kumari, followed by aarti and prasad distribution.
