English

The English Society witnesses active and enthusiastic participation through the year. The girls of Mayo College Girls’ School have tackled various topics in debate, drama and creative writing.

The debating society at Mayo College Girls’ School directs its whole hearted effort towards not only improving the team’s performance but also inculcating in its debaters a sense of perception and discernment. The society has participated in debate competitions across the country, as well as at global scale.

This year, our school hosted the fifth annual Silver Jubilee Commemorative Young Thinkers’ Conclave. A total number of twenty one schools participated. After intense preliminary and semi-final rounds, the final round of debate, chaired by Mr Pranab Mukherjee, comprised two finalists teams- Mayo College Girls’ School and The Springdales School, Pusa Road, New Delhi.  The opposition, Springdale school was declared the winner of the final round and the home team – the runners up.

In the realm of dramatics, our school participates in several competitions across the country.

Apart from winning the trophy for ‘Best Ensemble’ during the second instalment of the English Dramatics and Script writing event at the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Young Thinkers’ Conclave, 2016, our girls also performed a self-scripted play, ‘Dried Butter Lamps’ under the guidance of our creative mentor and eminent theatre personality  Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. The troupe performed the play across the country at institutions such as Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi, Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad, Birla School, Kalyan, The Palali School, Jaipur.

Creative Writing is steadily growing as it attempts to inculcate in every student a flair for writing. This year, the topic for senior section interhouse creative writing event was ‘Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye’ and ‘Child Marriage – it must be stopped’.

With these achievements and many more behind us ,we look forward to taking the coming year head on and making a mark with a difference in all the activities that we involve ourselves in.
