Round Square Inspired Service Project ‘Nazaria’

This year Mayo College Girls’ School has undertaken a Round Square Inspired Service Project, aptly named as ‘Nazaria’. Eight schools are participating in the event. The participating schools are: KC Public School , Jammu, The Daly College, Indore, Emerald Heights International School, Indore, Sunbeam School, Lahartara ,Chanderbala Modi Academy, Ankaleshwar, Vidya Devi Jindal School,Hisar, Mayo College, Ajmer and Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer. There are a total number of 59 delegates from across the country to be a part of this momentous occasion.

Today being the first day, we welcomed various teams through the day and the Project commenced with the registrations. The registrations were followed by an Ice-breaking session. All the delegates gathered in the Temple ground lawns. Various games and other interesting activities were organised during the session. Soon the place was thronging with people warming up to each other with newly forged bonds.

The Opening Ceremony started at 6.30 pm. It comprised of various performances. Two scintillating performances were made by the students of Government Secondary School for Blind students, one being a solo and the second a thought-provoking group song based upon Raag Yaman. Our girls enthralled the audience with an Odissi performance based upon a benediction to Lord Shiva and a Western Dance which was much applauded by the audience.
The day came to a close with an ethnic ,gastronomic experience where sumptuous, traditional Rajasthani dinner was served to the guests.
Round Square Inspired Service Project – Day TWO
The project undertaken was to paint and renovate the Government- owned Blind School located in Adarsh Nagar, Civil Lines, and Ajmer. The idea behind undertaking the project was to facilitate ambient surroundings for the visually-impaired children who find their way by making sense of the surroundings with their hands. The rough surface of the walls would often leave their hands grazed and bruised. In our humble capacity we undertook the project of painting the walls to allow a smoother texture.
The delegates had their breakfast in the mess. At 9.30 the buses took the various teams to the Govt. Senior Secondary School for blind children. All the delegates and children were divided into groups and were allotted specific rooms and areas to paint. The groups were given plastic gloves, aprons, masks, paint brushes and colours. Every group comprised students of different schools and therefore there was greater intermingling. The students were given half an hour break in between and given refreshments. The groups returned to Mayo College Girls’ School for lunch and then went back to the site to finish the painting tasks. The project made room for greater camaraderie, laughter and the groups felt good about the altruistic tasks they had undertaken. The day wound up amidst laughter, stories and friendship.
Round Square inspired Service Project ‘Nazariya’: Day 3
The conference delegates convened once again at the Govt. Senior Secondary Blind School at Adarsh Nagar to complete the painting task of the building that they had taken up on Day 2. The various groups used primer on the walls and white-washed certain walls. The boundary wall of the compound was also painted by the delegates. They applied the third and the 4th coat assiduously to give the walls a smooth texture and make the surrounding more ambient.
The delegation having done their bit, left for Pushkar to visit and pay their respects at the Bramha Temple. They took a stroll in the by lanes of Pushkar and had an insight into the rich cultural heritage of India. They had a sumptuous dinner hosted at the Pushkar resorts where a Kalbelia dance was performed by a local folk dancer. Kalbelia is a tribal dance form of Rajasthan. The delegation came back enriched with the myriad experiences of the day.

On day 4 after returning from a hectic project session, the students were given a taste of Rajasthani culture with Ghoomar dance and delicious Rajasthani food.
The last day of the project was when saplings were planted and memories captured in the form of Conference photograph.
It is rightly said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”
