Shram dan @ Gandhi Jayanti
2nd, October, 2019
Gandhiji said, “So long as you do not take the broom and the bucket in your hands, you cannot make your towns and cities clean.”
When Gandhiji inspected a model school, he told the teachers: “You will make your institution ideal, if besides giving the students literary education, you have made cooks and sweepers of them.”
To celebrate the birth of the Father of our nation, Mayo College Girls’ School , Ajmer, organized “Shram Dan” . While juniors spent time in cleaning the classes and the temples in school; senior students went to five different places for the purpose. Student and teachers participated whole heartedly in the event in keeping with the Gandhian values and ideals.
The programme was conducted at the following 8 venues:
01. Nirmal Niketan, Near Karunalaya, Jaipur Road, Ajmer
02. Meenu Mano Vikas Kendra, Chachiawas, Ajmer
03. Blind School, Adarsh Nagar,Ajmer
04. Bal Prakash Ashram , Badgaon, Ajmer
05. Sahil Vridhashram , Vaishali Nagar, Ajmer
We were fortunate to meet Mr. Mohinder Lal Singh who was part of the Indian Hockey contingent at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.Mr. Singh is presently a resident of Sahil Vridh Ashram
06. Saraswati temple, MCGS
07. Shiv Temple, MCGS
08. Class rooms, MCGS
While in most of the places , they were involved in cleaning the surroundings, in others they spend time in interacting with the inmates of our associated organizations. After the Shram Dan programme, inmates of Blind school and our students exchanged ideas and had a singing competition while the inmates of Sahil Vridh ashram sang old hindi songs with our students. It was a very uplifting and enriching experience for all of us and hopefully it would inspire us to follow the Gandhian principals of empathy and cleanliness.
