“Hariyali”
In today’s changing times, as we advance technologically, we are becoming environmentally derelict. Our planet is under attack, and it is human beings who are the attackers. It is time we realise that.
Even though we are physically apart due to the ongoing pandemic, it hasn’t stopped the students and teachers at Mayo College Girls’ School from trying to make this world a better place. The community service program at MCGS initiated the event “Hariyali” with the aim of increasing the green cover to offset the negative environmental effects of industrialisation, urbanisation, etc. Students were expected to plant trees and plants around their neighbourhood to contribute to this wonderful cause.

Through this initiative, we have been successful in planting several trees and plants around the country, and have succeeded in increasing awareness about the importance of planting trees. On 2nd August 2021, our students gathered together virtually on Google Meet to celebrate the successful completion of the first phase of the Hariyali – The tree plantation drive. Edhita Naruka and Naisha Parashar recited poems against deforestation and Pooja Airy, Laila Banerjee, and Ma’am Raina Sharma gave insightful presentations on sustainable living, organic farming, and afforestation characterised this celebration, which culminated in a question-answer round that brought to light important conversations on heinous practices such as fast-fashion and plastic usage.
