Teachers’ training workshop by ‘ORKIDS’
A Teachers’ training workshop was conducted by ‘ORKIDS’ at MCGS on the topic-Understanding Learning Disabilities in the Classrooms. ORKIDS started in the year 2000 is the largest chain of multidisciplinary clinics in India which provides remedial intervention to children with special needs, especially those with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, underachievers, scholastic backwardness and other developmental delays.
The senior trainer from ORKIDS- Mrs. Charu Khanna, with the help of interesting activities and discussions gave the staff an insight into important topics like:What are learning disabilities – Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia and associated disorders such as ADD/ ADHD, Early Signs and symptoms so that teachers could know the different types of disabilities and how to identify them, How to screen children – checklist to identify and help children at the earliest – To ‘catch them young’ because early intervention is the key to remediation, Management of Learning difficulties – Intervention & Accommodation – So teachers could help the children within the classroom, Classroom Strategies – Reading, Comprehension & Math.
The discussions revolved around challenges faced by students and the possible reasons behind these challenging behaviors. It was a meaningful, interactive workshop which included strategies that could be employed by teachers to help the child through the learning experience.
